A lot of people start the job hunt and the visa question as two separate jobs. In my experience they work best together. The role you take, the employer you take it with, and the visa you hope to use all need to point the same way. Here is the order I suggest to clients.
1. Start with the visa, not the job
Before you apply for anything, get clear on which visa pathway you are aiming for and what it asks of you. Things like your qualifications, your work history, and your English can all matter, and they differ from one visa to the next. The rules change over time, so always check the official source rather than an old forum post. For Australia, the Home Affairs visa finder is the place to begin. If you are not sure how your situation fits, this is exactly the kind of thing I help with.
2. Look beyond the obvious job boards
Once you know what you are aiming for, widen the search. The big job boards are fine, but they are not the whole picture. Look at industry-specific sites, talk to recruitment agencies, and use LinkedIn properly. A lot of good roles never reach a public board at all.
3. Tailor your resume and cover letter
Send the same generic resume everywhere and it shows. For each role, adjust your resume and cover letter so they speak to what that employer actually needs. Make it easy for them to see why you fit. A few minutes of editing per application beats sending fifty identical copies.
4. Build a real network
Your next role often comes through a person, not a portal. Have the coffee chats, go to the industry events, join the professional groups in your field. You are not asking for a job, you are letting people know you exist and what you do well.

5. Prepare properly for the interview
When the interview comes, do your homework. Read up on the company, practise the questions you find hard, and be ready to talk about your experience clearly and honestly. Confidence here usually comes from preparation, not from nerve.
6. Keep going
This is a marathon, not a sprint. Keep applying, keep your network warm, and keep your eye on the goal. Most people who stay steady find the right role in the end. It rarely happens as fast as you would like, and that is normal.
If you would like a hand matching a role to the right visa pathway before you apply, that is what I do. Get in touch and tell me a bit about your situation, and I will tell you honestly how I can help.
