Looking for work in another country? Maybe you want a fresh start, or you have always wanted to live and work somewhere new. I have helped a lot of people do this, and here is what I tell them.
1. Do your research first
Start by learning. Which countries interest you? What kind of work do they have? I always ask clients to do this homework before anything else. When you understand the job market and how things work in the country you are aiming for, you make better choices, and you waste a lot less time.
2. Talk to people who have done it
Find people who have worked abroad and talk to them. Their stories and their tips are worth a lot. They will point you to opportunities you would not have found on your own, and they will tell you what to expect.
3. Write an application that tells your story
Your application is your story. I help clients write a CV and a cover letter that an overseas employer wants to read. It is not only about your skills. It is about showing that you can settle into a new country and a new workplace. Add anything that shows what you have achieved.

4. Prepare for the interview
Interviews can feel scary, so prepare. I help clients learn about the company and practise their answers to the usual questions. Once you have done that, you walk in calmer, and you show the employer you are ready.
5. Keep your LinkedIn strong
A good LinkedIn profile matters. I help clients set one up that shows their skills and experience clearly. Stay active on it too, because work often comes from a message you did not see coming.
These steps have helped my clients land jobs overseas, and for many of them it became one of the biggest changes of their lives. You can do it too.
If you want a hand with any of this, get in touch through my contact page and tell me where you are headed.
